The Viking Children
This week has involved many appointments and decisions for our children. As parents we always want to do what's best for our children. It can be a struggle to give them the best in today's society and worry about their future.
For an upcoming appointment for my child, I decided to go to my guides and ask for help, protection and guidance. Little did I know that not only would they give that to me, they would also take me on a journey.
I went to my meditation and immediately went to the fire of my ancestors. Around the fire tonight were my Norse ancestors, the Vikings. They told me they had something to share with me and took me with them on a journey. We left the ancestors' fire and traveled to an old Norse village in Northern Norway.
We arrived in the village and it was very cold and covered in snow. It was dark and you could still see the snowflakes continue to fall against the backdrop of the snow covered mountain peaks on the horizon.
The village was more like a bunch of farmsteads nestled together to help the community survive in the harsh conditions.
I was first taken to a great hall in the middle of the farmstead and we all sat down at a table. I was offered food and drink while the Viking who led me began to speak. “We want the best for our children. It has been that way for generation after generation. We can only do the best we can each day. The universe is here to help all of us. But remember, just as you are on your life path you chose, so are your children on their own life path too. It is a difficult journey with children, sometimes joyous, sometimes sad. It is all part of our journey”
He stopped speaking and opened the door and several Viking Children came running into the hall. “Children”, the Viking guide said, “Welcome our guest” . Each child came up to me and gave me a hug. Then each one told me what they liked to do. Some pretended to go on raids. Some liked to build and wanted to be shipbuilders when they were older. Some liked to listen to poetry and viking stories. But most wanted to learn to fight to go on their first raid.
When the children were done sharing their stories with me, the Viking guide led me back outside. We traveled out of the village and into the forest towards the mountains. We arrived at a large stone and stopped and gathered around the stone.
This is one of the first ancient rune stones from our ancestors, the Viking guide told me. I looked at the stone and all of the carvings on it. I could make out that the rune carved into the stone was Pertho.
The Viking guide had me sit down and he began to speak. “ This is a magical stone. I brought you here so that I can show you more about the children you met.”
He would then show me above the stone images of each child and their fate. One child would go on to be a leader in the village. Another child would become a farmer and raise a family in the village One child would move to Iceland. Another went on a viking raid and died in battle in England. The next child went on a voyage and fell overboard and drowned.
Then he showed me the children who did not grow up. One froze to death. One starved. Most caught a sickness or disease. One out every 5th child died before their 5th birthday.
I asked him to stop. I had seen enough. He did and told me that life is a difficult journey full of many ups and downs. Our love for our children is an important part of our journey. Our responsibility as parents to provide and care for our children can be one of the most spiritually draining experiences we face on a daily basis. But, we can't let ourselves be drained spiritually. We have to learn to trust the universe and accept the path that we are on and our children are on. We can only take things one day at a time and not worry about what may come.
He pointed back to the rune. Pertho. One of the many meanings of Pertho is a hidden or secret circumstance. It is a rune of Frigg who knew the destiny of all but could not tell it to anyone. It is the rune of fate and the rune of luck and winning.
We don't know our destinies or those of our children. But our soul knew them when it chose this life path. Our future and our children's future is secret and hidden. We only know today. The present. Right now. We can control what we do in the moment. We can control what we teach our children. We can control how we respond to the situations our children are in. But ultimately we can't control their life path. We can't control their journey. We are not given that information, it's not able to be provided to us.
We can ask the ancestors and guide for help and protection. They will do their best to help us on our journey. But destiny has already been selected. The fate has already been decided. The present is where we must live.
The Viking guide took me back to the ancestors' fire. My meditation ended. It was one of the most difficult and draining journeys I had been on. But I needed it. I needed to learn to embrace the present. To not put as much pressure on myself. That I was doing the best I could as a parent. That I can only give my children the information about life that had been given to me. Then I needed to let go. I can't walk their journey for them. It's their journey. They have to learn to live in the present and follow their spiritual path to their destiny and their fate that their soul chose to accept.
Blessed Be
